2016 US-Brazil Team Leaders

Cris Silva

Team Coordinator

I’m happy this will be my third season with US-Brazil Connect and THRILLED to be back because I see Conexão Mundo’s potential to change lives, instill more confidence in students through coaching, and also provide a safe space for community exchanges where both sides can benefit and grow. I have been an Educational Facilitation Specialist for teams in Dourados, Mato Grosso do Sul and Joinville, Santa Catarina.
I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, but came to the US as an exchange student when I was 19 to attend what would have been a one-year exchange program at the University of Kansas. I transferred credits from The University of São Paulo, in Brazil and graduated with a BA in English, French, and Linguistics. I then moved to Ohio to pursue an MA in Translation from Kent State University, and I've also lived and worked in New York and Mexico City.
In Colorado, I've worked as an in-house and freelance translator and interpreter. I currently coordinate and teach in the Portuguese Program at the Middlebury Institute of International Studies in Monterey, California. I'm thrilled that most of my life has revolved around teaching and learning foreign languages and am fortunate to share that magic with others.

Shelsea Ochoa

Team Coordinator

Shelsea joined US-Brazil connect in 2014, and is returning to her fourth site this year because she understands how transformative the program can be for Leaders, Fellows, and the students. She is excited to grow, learn, and make a difference in 2016!

Shelsea has 9 years of experience working in experiential learning, where she develops curriculum, leads workshops, and facilitates growth. With a love of diversity and people, she has done educational work in over 20 different countries in 4 continents. She believes in the transformative power of community and communication, and loves co-creating spaces where people can learn from one another. Some of the organizations Shelsea has worked with include:  The Denver Museum of Nature and Science, Up With People, LearningRX, The Homeschool Alliance, The San Diego River Park Foundation, LifePlay Productions, A.R.T.S., Youtopia, Zen with Len, 5 Rhythms, and the Demartini Institute. Her lifelong goal is to combine self-expression and education to foster growth in both people and communities.

Since moving to Denver in the end of 2014, Shelsea spends most of her free time enjoying the abundant art scene of Denver: going to concerts, live performances, museums, poetry readings, and dancing! Five things she would not want to go without are: the people she loves, time in nature, art, avocados, and singing in the shower.

Terry Cox

Team Coordinator

This is Terry's third year with the US-Brazil Connect program. He sees this program as a life-changing experience for the community college students that join. He believes that through the program, we can show our students that they can do more than they realize. He helps them expand their comfort zones and understanding of the world.

Mr. Cox earned his BS in Mechanical Engineering from Ohio State University, his MS in Systems Engineering from Wright State University and his MBA from the University of Michigan. He then held various engineering and business positions in the aerospace and automotive industries. He has traveled extensively internationally for business and pleasure and has worked and lived in Japan. He has begun a second career as a mathematics instructor at Jackson College in Michigan. He has been a team coordinator for teams in Macaé, Rio de Janeiro, Brasilia and Salvador.

Linnea Chruscielski

Office Administrator

Before going to Brazil as a team coordinator in 2015, Linnea was a program coordinator for the Colorado Veterinary Medical Association. She worked with pigs, chickens, llamas, and all kinds of animals! After returning from Brazil, she started working with the Denver refugee community and volunteering in an ESL classroom. Now she is happy to be back working with US-Brazil Connect. Hailing from northern Minnesota, she is an avid hockey fan and has played since she was 4 years old. In her free time she loves skiing, swimming, and Spikeball (if you don't know what that is, YouTube it!)
